- Today is Cinco De Mayo! What are you doing with your family today?
- I've never heard of that before. Are you sure its a holiday?
- Yes I'm sure! We celebrate every year!
- My family has never celebrated that. I think we have different cultures!
- Mrs. S how come Ana's family celebrates Cinco De Mayo and my family doesn't?
- Well you and Ana come from two different cultures and different cultures have unique traditions.
- But what does having different cultures mean?
- It just means you both have different aspects of your life like religion, holidays, food, language and traditions!
- So me and Ana's families aren't the same?
- No they aren't. But that doesn't mean its a bad thing! America is a very diverse place to live and being exposed to other ways of life is important to understand the people around you in a better way!
- A persons culture and the place they grew up make up a persons identity. Being surrounded in a society with people from different cultures help find your own self individuality! Being around other ethnicities has introduced me to different ways of life and helps me resonate with some of my closest friends.
