- Galileo proved even further that planets revolved around the sun due to the invention of the telescope in 1610 and published a book in 1632. As the discoveries he made contradicted what the church taught, people became sceptical about the reliability of the Church.

- Thomas Hobbes releases the Leviathan as a defence for absolutism in 1651. In the book, he states that absolute power is the best way to control the citizens.
