Storyboard Text

  • Thursday Night Back @ Emilee the Student Teacher's House
  • Wow! Ms.D's lesson today really incorporated a lot of the 16 principles of structured process approach created by Hilex that we've discussed in writing methods.
  • -Composing is highly social act.-Teachers orchestrate student activity.-Modeling of thinking practices may be appropriate.
  • While modeling is essential to student success, how do you know how much to do? How much is too much modeling, and how much is not enough?
  • The only problem is that the writing process she used is created around White Standard English. While this is important for standards, how could I adjust it in a classroom to be more inclusive?
  • I think the best idea would be to do some modeling and provide some supports, and then check student understanding with a formative assignment. Based on that formative assignment I can determine if I need to go back and do more modeling or if they have grasped it and are ready for a summative.
  • I'm still not positive exactly how to approach this question, but maybe if I put less emphasis on student grammar and structure, instead focusing on their ability to address the prompt using their own voice, it could be beneficial.
