  • The narrator got a letter from Usher to come see him. Although him and Usher haven't seen each other in a long time since their childhood, but he still went to go see him. In the letter stated about of an ''illness of the body — of a sickness of the mind — and of a desire to see him ,his best and indeed his only friend''
  • The Fall of the House of Usher Part 2/Conflict
  • The House of Usher was a old fallen apart building of ''gloom'', with dead trees all around and its empty ''eye-like windows, unhealthy air that I could see, slow-moving, heavy, and gray''. A servant that works at the house took his horse while a other servant was waiting for him to enter.

  • The servant lead him through dark hallways to the room of his master where it was a ''large and high room with he windows were high, and pointed at the top, Dark coverings hung upon the walls. The many chairs and tables had been used for a long, long time, books lay around the room''. Usher was laying and when he looked at his face he knew every word he wrote was true.

  • They both were sitting and Usher spoke saying, ''I shall die''. He wants to die because of his illness and he is afraid of the day that soon he will die and lose his body and soul. The narrator learned from Usher that he had some terrible worries about the house he is living, he feels that the house has a powerful force that is having a strong hold of Usher's spirit since he hasn't gone out in years.
  • He was also sad about his only sister Madeline how if she were to die he will be last of his old ancient family , house of Usher. As he was saying that Madeline walked through the room without saying anything while making eye contact with with the narrator then went through the door and closed behind her. usher started saying how she has an illness and the doctors cant do anything about it.
  • Several days later the narrator and Usher haven't spoke about Madeline. During those days they have been painting and reading together even listing to the wild music that Usher liked. The painting that Usher painted was a painting of a room '' where the dead might be placed, with low walls, white and plain. It seemed to be very deep under the earth. There was no door, no window; and no light or fire burned; yet a river of light flowed through it, filling it with a horrible, ghastly brightness''.
