  • Daily Life in the Roman Empire
  • Life is great in the Roman Empire!
  • Rome is an amazing place if you have money. For example...
  • Not for all of us! What's so good about your daily life?
  • Education
  • The education of boys and girls in the rich life is tutored by our fathers until we are 6 years old. The boys go off to school after the age of 6. Their classes were held in either private or public homes.
  • Education for us children is we're sent to to work instead of to school. We learned trades, such as leather working and metalworking, to help earn money for our families.
  • Us poor have to live in small apartments above the shops where we work. Our apartments are cramped, noisy, and dirty.
  • Housing
  • Our Wealthy woman of Rome lives in grand house, built of stone and marble. An indoor pool helped to keep the atrium cool. We also have an opening on the roof to let in natural light.
  • Food and Drink
  • For dinner, we have chunks of fish along with some asparagus and fig for dessert.
  • Only us rich people had a kitchen on our homes. Us wealthy Romans ate elaborate dinners, mice cooked on honey, roasted parrots stuffed with dates, salted jellyfish, and snails dipped in milk.
  • Family Life
  • Us rich people, our husbands often held well-paid political positions. Wealthy Roman women run the households. They bought and trained the family's slaves. Many had money of their own and were active in business. They bought and sole property.
  • In our families, husbands and wives have to work in order to feed and care for ourselves and the children.
  • The End
  • Poor v.s Rich Romans
