Storyboard Text

  • Gatsby looks at the green light from the dock
  • Daisy and Gatsby reconnect
  • Daisy and Gatsby in the yellow car
  • The authors purpose is to show that the green light represents Gatsby's dream of being with Daisy. Gatsby notices the green light at the end of a dock for the first time, "... and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been at the end of a dock" (Fitzgerald 21). Gatsby does not know whose dock this is on but later finds out it is on Daisy's dock.
  • The authors purpose of the mantel clock is even after many years, Gatsby and Daisy found each other again which makes Gatsby believe they will be together forever. Gatsby wants to recreate the past love he had with Daisy, "You can't repeat the past" (Fitzgerald 110). Even though Gatsby wants to repeat the past and have a relationship with Daisy, she knows that it will never happen.
  • The authors purpose in this scene is to show that even though Daisy was having an affair with Gatsby and Tom found out. Tom still trust Daisy with Gatsby. After Tom finds out Daisy was having an affair with Gatsby, he sends Daisy in the car with Gatsby, "Go on. He won't annoy you. I think he realizes that his presumptuous little flirtation is over" (Fitzgerald 135). Even though Daisy was having an affair with Daisy, Tom still trust Daisy to be alone with Gatsby.
