  • Walking was the main transport until humans started domesticating animals like horses, camels, cattle's, etc.
  • the Persians built a system of roads in the 500s BC.
  • Transportation by water expanded in the Middle Ages (AD 500 - 1500). New ships were built. Voyages were discovered in the 1400s and 1500s.
  • The steam engine was invented in the 1700s. Steam powered boats could easily travel.
  • The late 1800s saw the first successful bicycles and automobiles. They made transportation quick and easy.
  • In 1903 Wilbur and Orville Wright flew the world's first airplane. The jet plane was invented in the 1940s.
