Walking was the main transport until humans started domesticating animals like horses, camels, cattle's, etc.
the Persians built a system of roads in the 500s BC.
Transportation by water expanded in the Middle Ages (AD 500 - 1500). New ships were built. Voyages were discovered in the 1400s and 1500s.
The steam engine was invented in the 1700s. Steam powered boats could easily travel.
The late 1800s saw the first successful bicycles and automobiles. They made transportation quick and easy.
In 1903 Wilbur and Orville Wright flew the world's first airplane. The jet plane was invented in the 1940s.
