Storyboard Text

  • Siddhartha Gautama grew up in a small kingdom, near the Himalayas, in Nepal. He was shielded from the outside world, confined only to the kingdom, given everything he asked. Even though he had everything, something was calling Gautama, so he decided to leave the kingdom and head for the city.
  • Upon entering the city, he had seen things he had never known existed. This began with Gautama coming across a man who was sick. Before today, he had never known sickness existed. He was confused and scared.
  • The Next day, after the sick man, he had stumbled upon something else that startled him. An old man. He never thought that people aged, or reached old age.
  • Finally, on his last visit to the city, he had encountered the most horrible, and most disturbing event that was completely new to Gautama. It was death. He found a dead body being carried to a burning ground.
  • While Gautama was returning from the city, he was greeted by a wandering ascetic. After his encounter with this wanderer, Gautama had developed the resolve to leave his home and find the answer to people's suffering.
  • Gautama waited till night to bid his family farewell, and then he ran off into the forest, giving up everything, and taking up the life of an ascetic.
