- The USA Drops a nuke on Japan. This was the start of the cold war because they were basically staring down Russia. They were trying to scare them.
- Containment is the practice of making sure something doesn't spread to areas that it shouldn't.
- The Atomic Energy Commision was made to be able to develop new atomic bombs to keep up in the arms race.
- We also want to make a pact with other european countries to help contain russia. We will call this group nato to protect the peace
- We need containment to make sure communism doesn't spread around the globe. If it doesn't spread then it will kill its self.
- This also made the polarization of Germany extreme with both sides so different
- The purpose of the berlin airlift was to make it so people in west Berlin had the supplies to make sure nothing spread across the borders.
- espionage is the practicing of sending undercover agents across seas to seek out information of other armies.
- Mccarthyism is spreading fear about spies from the soviet union. They would make it so these people could not get job and would be frowned upon from the world.
- Also another big thing about the space race was much fear came from the unknown. 
- The space race first started when we found out about sputnik. Sputnik was a satellite circling the world. This caused major fear about spies.
- The main thing that came from the arms race was trying to show off power of the army that you created.
- The arms race was during the cold war. The goal of each side was to have a stronger army then the other.
