- INT. A DARK ROOM WITH A SINGLE SOURCE OF LIGHT FROM ABOVE - DAY
- INT. A LIVING ROOM HALL - DAY
- INT. A CLASSROOM - TRANSITION TO INSIDE HIS MIND - MORNING
- Man (1) stands blankly with words written in black ink on his arms, legs, and clothing.
- INT. A MESSY BEDROOM - AFTERNOON
- Man (1) stands in the living room beside a family portrait. In place of the words from the previous scene, there are scars. The camera zooms into the photo and the expressions of all members of the family are emotionless.
- INT. A LIVING ROOM WITH CHARACTERS PRESENT - TRANSITION TO INSIDE HIS MIND - NIGHT
- Boy (1) sits on his desk and is not paying attention to the teacher. The scene zooms in to his mind, and there are thoughts of math, science and literature symbols, but also scenes of sports and entertainment.
- INT. A QUIET LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
- Inside the messy room the camera focuses on a desk in the corner and a single paper and pen. On the paper are a long list of names and dates at the side, with most of the rows crossed out or scribbled over.
- Man (2) is in his living room, filled with his colleagues, siblings, and parents. They suddenly turn to him and give him genuine warm smiles.
- Boy (2) enters his dimly lit living room where he sees his mother sitting alone on the couch watching television. He sits beside her and attempts to explain a personal problem to her, but she stands up, turns off the television and walks away.
