On the 24th August AD79 there was a big explosion from Mount Vesuvius and it killed almost 2000 people in Pompeii.

There was a boom and there was a lot of smoke in the sky but every one thought the gods were angry and went on with the day as normal.

Then later that day there was another bigger explosion and that's when people started getting worried and started to leave the city.

A fewminutes later the sky became as black as night and everyone was worried and nobody knew what was going on some people tried to escape and others stayed in there homes with there family.

HELP!

Later that day the sky was darker than before and the ash and rocks were wrecking all the buildings and people were trying to leave the city but they were too late the sea was too rough and only some people managed to get out by foot.

A few years later in 1748 famers and workers found the city of Pompeii and dug it up and now you can visit it and learn about the Roman life.
