- Okonkwo is a wealthy respected man o the Umuofia clan. He brought honor to his village by beating Amalinze the Cat in a wrestling contest.
- Chapter 4
- One night, the town crier rings the ogene, or gong, and requests that all the clansmen gather in the market. In the Mbaino village someone murders their wife. Okonkwo travels there and tells them they must hand a virgin and a young man.
- Chapter 5
- Okonkwo chooses to do differently from his father and work hard to make up his father's negativity towards him. He succeeds in becoming a warrior, farmer, and a family provider. He begins to receive farm seeds and then starts to farm.
- Chapter 6
- The clan decides that it is best if Ikemefuna stays with Okonkwo. Ikemefuna now grows closer to Nwoye, Okonkwo, and his children. Okonkwo ends up breaking peace during the week of peace. Due to his actions he has to sacrifice a goat, hen, and a pay a fine of one lenght of cloth and one hundred cowries.
- Just before the harvest, the village has a celebration of Feast of the New Year to give thanks to the earth goddess Ani. Okonkwo becomes furious and begins to fight with his second wife. The fight gets to intense to the point where he shoots his guns towards the wife.
- There is a wrestle match being held in the village. The wrestling match begins with matches between boys the age of 15 and 16. The son o Okonkwo's friend, Makuda, wins the first match, While that takes place Ekwefi is having a conversation with Chielo.
