  • I WILL BE INITIATING A BLOCKADE ON ALL THINGS FROM WEST TO EAST GERMANY!!
  • Following WWII, Germany was divided amongst the Allies, USA, Britain, France, and Soviet Union. Soviet Union controlled the Eastern part while the rest controlled the Western area.
  • Where is the food?
  • While the nation was divided amongst the four, so was the capital city of Berlin. Within that city, the Eastern part suffered from economic hardships due to its style of government. Due to this, many decided to immigrate to West Germany where the economy was more promising.
  • Thinking Highly
  • Following the mass immigrations from East Germany to West Germany, the Soviet Union was quite upset. Khrushchev, the then-leader of Soviet Union, decided to force the Allies out of Berlin. Their first action was to block all importation from the West to the city of Berlin.
  • Following the blockade, millions of people were stranded in the western part of the city. Many could not get food or any other items due to this. This was an action made to force the western allies out of the city.
  • They closed off the allies from Berlin, How will West Berlin get any items??
  • The actions by the Soviet Union did not force the allies out, rather, they used the air power to airdrop needed supplies to the city. This blockade was eventually lifted in 1949.
  • After a decade of relative calm, the refugees from East Germany continued to escalate. More and more of skilled workers were leaving the country. To combat this, in 1961, Khrushchev gave the orders to construct a wall that will prevent any movement between East and West Germany.
