  • Hi, I'm Ananya.I am an environmentalist from Haryana, and I recently shifted here.
  • Hello, I'm Srinivas.
  • I am interested to know the type of methods used to conserve soil.
  • Sure! In order to conserve soil, we are using some new farming methods such as crop rotation.
  • What is crop rotation?
  • In India, farmers used to grow a particular crop in the same field year after year. Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of different types of crops in the same area. It reduces reliance on one set of nutrients.
  • That is very helpful!
  • Another method is strip cropping. In this method crops are cultivated in alternate strips. Numerous yields ripen at different times of the year and are harvested at intervals. This method ensures that at no time of the year the entire area is left barren or exposed.
  • That is a very effective method. Are there any other methods?
  • We also prevent overgrazing as it can reduce ground cover causing soil erosion and compaction of the land by wind and rain.
  • This is all very informative and I am highly impressed with your methods of conserving soil.
  • It has been my pleasure talking to you. Soil is essential to life. It provides a place for plants to grow and a home for insects and fulfills other critical duties that our planet depends on.
