- After Death
- The Duat/Underworld
- Facing 'monsters' in the underworld
- The body gets mummified by a team of priests removing every organ but the heart because it was said to have emotions, memory and intelligence, then stuffing the body with natron, a type of salt, and then wrapping the body in resin soaked linen that had charms woven in it for protection. Heart scarab amulets are also put on the mummified body during mummification.
- Being Judged by 42 Assessor Gods
- Before entering the afterlife, the spirits of the person have to get through the challenges in the Duat, also known as the underworld.
- The Weighing of the Heart
- the first thing the spirit goes through in the underworld is avoiding and and repelling monsters. Then they will come to the Hall of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice.
- The Afterlife
- After facing the 'monsters' , the spirit has to face being judged by 42 assessor gods. During this process, the spirit has to convince the assessor gods that they have lived a righteous life.
- This stage is the stage that gets to decide if the spirit gets to go to the afterlife. The heart that was left in the body is weighed with a feather. If the heart is heavier, than the spirit is not worthy of going to the afterlife, but if the heart is lighter than it meant the heart was pure and the spirit can go to the afterlife.
- If the spirits heart is judged as pure after all the challenges, it is taken to Osiris, the god of the underworld, by Ra, the sun god. There, Osiris will allow the spirit to enter the afterlife.
