  • During the American Revolution, the Americans were divided into two groups, the Patriots, and Loyalists. The Patriots supported independence while the Loyalists supported Britain. Moderates in Congress drafted the Olive Branch Petition which was a request for the king to restore peace. However, the king rejected the petition.
  • The Battle of Yorktown
  • Thomas Paine had written "Common Sense" as an argument and to offer facts to the people as to why they needed to break from Britain. In "Common Sense" he thinks the idea of a king ruled by the will of God is ridiculous, states that all monarchies were corrupted, and says that King George III was a "Royal Brute. "Common Sense" gave a new perspective to people and gave sort of gave them the motivation to break ties with Britain.
  • The Treaty of Paris in 1783
  • America had a series of small battles against Britain and lost every single one of them. On October 1777, at the Battle of Saratoga, European nations decided to help the Americans. France had given America secret aid and convinced Spain to help as well. Spain and France helped the Americans in different ways such as providing them with supplies, food troops, and military experience.

  • I agree and the good of the country should be more important than individual interests.
  • The major battle, the Battle of Yorktown, was the last battle of the American Revolution. British was forced to surrender after the American and French troops bombarded them. The British leaders soon began to negotiate a peace treaty after this.
  • The Treaty of Paris was what officially ended the American Revolution. The meeting took place in Paris. The treaty granted the United States independence.   • The American Revolution was not just a war, it brought new ideas about a government. The Americans were going to shape their own government. They were going to do this by not having aking rule and control them but for them to do it and would place the good of the country above individual interests.
