- The Shang Dynasty was led by a powerful king who set up smaller kingdoms that were led by his younger brothers and nephews. After the king died, the kingdom was passed to a younger brother or his son. The king lived in a palace.
- Nobles fought in the king's army and supplied them with weapons, foot soldiers, and chariots.Lived in palaces Spent time hunting. They also had a good relationship with the king
- Artisans were potters, stonemasons and workers that crafted items of bronze and jade. They made weapons for Shang warriors.They also made and decorated containers for the king and his nobles.
- Traders exchanged goods and used cowrie shells as money.
- Farmers made up the largest social class, they did not own the land they farmed. They had to give most of their harvest to nobles and could only keep enough food to feed themselves and their family. They also learned to raise cattles.
