- the athenians were victorious in battle and told the persians that they didn't need protection and the persians were furious with the athenians.

- as the athenians marched back to athens to counter-attack the persians at athens.

- the battle of marathon took place in bay of marathon.
- then they used a narrow valley to use their phalinxs formation to push up the persians and cut them down
- after their victory in marathon the persian took to the seas so they could sail to athens by sea and burn it to the ground.
