Storyboard Text

  • November 9th, 1938.At the time, The Night of Broken Glass occurred both in this book and in history. In this scene, Michael, the main character, had a flashback back to was eight years old. This is one of the most important scenes in the book because this is when Michael found out that his family were spies.
  • It's a Jew! Get it!
  • [In German] Yes David, I will. [In English] Michael, I think its time you finally find out. Your Father and I are spies for the Irish Embassy. We tell the Irish what the German do, in secrecy, to help the Allies win the war.
  • [In German] Get to safety with the kid, Mr. O'Shaunessey. We got this covered out here.
  • [In German] Thank you sir. Megan, will you take Michael to the truck? I'll be right there.
  • [In English]Mom, what's happening? what are they doing to him?
  • November 9th, 1938:Kristallnacht. This event is called "The Night of Broken Glass," and it's called that because during this night, the Nazis broke into every one of the Jewish stores and synagogues and burned everything that they contained and they beat up the Jewish. This was about a year before WW 2 started.
  • [In German] The Jew is getting away! Get it now!
  • Please no! Please!
  • In this scene, it is around 1943. Michael and a few other kids from the SRD, or junior Gestapo, were going to stop a group of rebels, in this novel called Edelweiss Pirates, and were going to arrest them and send them to "protective custody," or in other words, a concentration camp.
  • We go in and we stop these Pirates for the last time! Charge!
  • Fritz, a boy that Michael met in the Hitler Youth
  • Karl, a boy that turned in his parents to the Gestapo that got promoted to SRD officer
