- May 7th, 1915, in the Irish Sea....
- I need to sink the ship before it can deliver them.
- I demand you stop this submarine warfare and pay your respects to the victims families.
- 128 Americans DEAD because you Germans sank that ship!
- In the United States...
- Germany: We promise to stop the sinking without warning.
- We will not hesitate to cut diplomatic ties with you...
- You sank the Sussex and killed more Americans. You broke our promise!
- Germany: No! We promise through the Sussex Pledge that U-boats will warn ships prior to attacking!
