- The story starts out with poor boy known as P.T. Barnum falling in love with a rich young girl known as Charity, even though they come form very different families they love each other, no matter what happens.

- What happens next is he tries to find people that are not normal, but he convinces them to be themselves no no matter who says what.

- After that he tries to concise Phillip to be apart of the show with him. They have a whole talk in song about how it is better to be on the other side.

- And then it explains how they don't want the dad to leave, the circus is also getting criticized for how they think that people are freaks.
- After the people criticized the circus they eventually mobbed them and burnt the circus to the ground. He then explains how he is going to fix things and how it will be from now on, He then loses his wife and a few days later tries to find her to tell her that he is extremely sorry and he never meant for this to happen.
- It then tells about how they have done so well and gone so far that they are how they are and no one can stop them. They have made a show that shows everyone this.
