  • Magna Carta of King John, AD 1215No free man shall be... imprisoned or disseised... except by the lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land.-King John

  • Navigation Acts 1651
  • A written Constitution signed by King John of England stating that everyone is subject to the law, even the king. It gave everyone a right to justice and to a fair trial. The Magna Carta initiated American peoples to act out against the parliament because they believed they should be given the same power as the English.
  • Enlightenment 1688
  • British policy that North American colonies were free to trade in any way they wanted as long as the remained loyal to the British and provided economic profitability. Durng this time, the British weren't enforcing laws in the colonies, so the colonists got used to governing themselves.
  • English Bill of Rights 1689
  • HUMAN RIGHTS!
  • These are laws that developed and gave people a right to ship, trade and commerce between other countries and its own colonies. Great Britain was controlling the colonies and their economy unfairly and the Americans weren't happy with that.

  • Also known as the Age of Reason, the Enlightenment was a cultural movement that emphasized reason over superstition. The Enlightenment formed philisophocal ideas for America's claim that they should have more independencee.
  • The Eglish Bill of Rights inspired a form of government where rights and liberties of citizens were protected. The Bill of Rights was created to free Americans form a powerful central government and it limited the power of the monarchy.
  • The Sugar Act reduced the rat of tax on certain products such as molasses and sugar, and it arrived at a time of economic depression. The parliament passed it to raise money from the colonies and it led to the American's revolting.
