Storyboard Text

  • Oliver Twist is born in England in the 1830s. Nobody knows of his mother who died giving birth to Oliver. He spends 9 years in a badly run orphanage until he is 9 and then he is transferred to a workhouse for adults.
  • He is eventually apprenticed to a local undertaker, Mr. Sowerberry. Oliver gets into a fight with the other apprentice and runs away at dawn towards London.
  • Outside London, Oliver, meets Jack Dawkins, a boy his own age. Jack offers him shelter in the London house of his boss, Fagin.I t turns out that Fagin is a criminal who trains orphan boys to pickpockets for him. After a few days of training, Oliver is sent on a pick pocketing mission with two other boys.
  • When he sees them steal a handkerchief from an elderly man, Oliver is horrified and runs off. He is caught but escapes being convicted of the theft. Mr. Brownlow, the man whose handkerchief was stolen, takes the feverish Oliver to his home and nurses him back to health.
  • A burglar called Bill Sykes and his lover, Nancy recapture Oliver. Sykes tells Fagin they have to kill Oliver to keep their secrets safe. Nancy informs Mr. Brownlow of what they were planning.
  • When Fagin hears of what Nancy has done, he brutally kills her and tries to run away with Oliver as a hostage. He fails and while trying to escape, he hangs himself. Oliver is reunited with Mr. Brownlow who adopts Oliver and they retire to a peaceful life in the countryside.
