Lizabeth flashes back when she destroyed Ms. Lottie's precious marigolds. She was 14 during the great depression. Her family was poor and her dad couldn't find a job.
Climax
Lizabeth and her brother left alone while their parents do their thing. They decided to play with other kids. They need to decide what game to play. One suggested that they should pick locusts. They didn't like that. Lizabeth's brother suggested that they should throw rocks at Ms. Lottie's marigolds. They all agreed.
Falling Action
They went to Ms. Lottie's house and hid behind the bushes.
Resolution
Lizabeth's brother threw the rock first and everyone followed. Ms. Lottie was enraged and tried to push the kids away/
She started to feel ashamed on what they did. Lizabeth heard hear parents fighting about his dad's job. She was upset about this and ask his brother if he wants to go with her.
They went to Ms. Lottie's house. Lizabeth started destroying her marigolds. Joey tried to stop but he was too late. Ms. Lottie came out and saw what was happening. Lizabeth stood there looking at her silently. She realized that she's not in her childhood anymore and lost her innocence.
