- June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian Nationalist. He was with his wife in Sarajevo, Bosnia. This began the spark to World War I

- The First Battle of Marne, September 6-12, 1914. This battle marked the end of the German sweep into France and the beginning of the trench warfare that was to characterize World War I.
- Due to Germany's submarine attacks on British ships, On April 2, 1917, President Wood Wilson went before Congress and requested a delcaration of War against Germany. The U.S.A enters WWI.
- On July 1, 1916, the first day of the Battle of Somme. British Sildiers moved across no man's land attacking the Germans.
- Battle of Verdun, 200,000 French soliders vs. 1 million German soldiers. Huge French Victory!
- At the end of WWI, on July 28, 1918, Germany was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles. The citizens of Germnay were not happy and protested. There were crippled financially and militarily in addition to paying war reparations.
