  • The Compromise of 1850 was made up of five bills that attempted to resolve disputes over slavery in new territories added to the United States. It admitted California as a free state, left Utah and New Mexico to decide for themselves whether to be a slave state or a free state. unsettled provisions contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War.

  • Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by Harriet Stowe about the unfair treatment to slaves, injustice, and aroused pro-abolitionst views in the south which lead to it being banned. it sparked a lot of movement and fights, it also played a role in helping Abraham Lincoln into the election which led to the civil war
  • Harpers Ferry( October 16, 1859)
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act was an act that repealed the Missouri Compromise, which created two new territories, and allowed for popular sovereignty. It also produced a violent uprising known as Bleeding Kansas, which was proslavery and antislavery activists flooding into the territories to sway the vote that they wished
  • Election of 1860(1774
  • The dred scot decision was when the United States Supreme Court decided that slavery in United States territories shall be upheld , and denied the legality of black citizenship in America, and declared the Missouri Compromise to be unconstitutional. This made dred scott, a free man, no longer free. this fueld tensions between the north and south which led to the civil war
  • abolitionist John Brown led 21 men down the road to Harpers Ferry to take the town's federal armory and, ultimately ignite a nationwide uprising against slavery. The raid failed, but still sparked a lot of movement agaisnt slavery.his raid helped make any further accommodation between North and South nearly impossible which helped the civil war
  • the election of 1860 was the true spark of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln became president, who was agaisnt slavery. this angered a lot of pro slavery people.Lincoln also refused to accept any resolution that would result in Southern secession from the Union so this became the main spark of the Civil War.
