The Brown v. Board of Education was in 1954 when separate schooling facilities were called unconstitutional and a violation of the 14th Amendment. Due to this ruling, schools were meant to be integrated.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was organized and led by Martin Luther King. African Americans refused to use the city buses to fight for integrated seating.

The Little Rock Nine was in 1957 when nine students integrated into Central High School. The students went through objects being thrown at them during their walk.

  • Harpers' Ferry started in 1859. This raid was led by John Brown, who guided a group of 21 to seize the federal arsenal and give it to slaves. His goal was to begin a slave uprising, invade the South, and end slavery. In the end, Brown failed and was hanged. As a result, the Northern states considered him a martyr while the south pushed out secession.
  • The Election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln was elected as president. He vowed to end the spread of slavery which upset the southern states. Lincoln gave the southern states two options, either leave or slaves will become free. The southern decided to secede from South Carolina. The southern choosing to become their own country lead to the Civil War against the south and north.
