  • Stupid stamp act!
  • Oct 1763, Proclamation of 1763.
  • YOU CANNOT PASS!
  • Sugar Act, April 1764
  • WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY.
  • The Stamp Act was a law that gained the British money through taxes on stamps. The taxes had to be paid with British money as they would not take colonial money. John Adams also wrote resolutions protesting the tax. This act caused the colonists to protest, boycotts, and attacks. The law was repealed in March of 1766.
  • Townshend Act, June 1767
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was a boundary line by the Appalachian mountains created by the British to prevent the colonists from settling there. The British also claimed they were protecting the colonists. This was done after the French and Indian War to keep peace with the Natives. This upset the colonists because they felt they had a right to the land. This added fire to the ongoing tension between the colonies and the British.
  • Boston Tea Party, December 1773
  • The Sugar Act was created to stop the trading and smuggling of sugar and molasses. Merchants had to buy molasses and sugar through the British which was more expensive. This upset the colonists as molasses and sugar is how they made rum, their main trading export. After protests the British repealed the law in 1766.
  • Boston Massacre, March 1770
  • The Townshend Act taxed goods imported to the American colonies. This angered the colonists because they had no voice in the matter. Using the phrase no taxation without representation to talk about unfairness. Protests and boycotts also took place.
  • The Boston Tea Party was a protest held by the Sons of Liberty. The protestors tossed around 92,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor. The tea was worth around 1 million. As a result, the British shut down the Boston Harbor until all 340 chests were paid for. This was known as the Boston Port Act
  • The Boston Massacre was a confrontation that took place on March 5, 1770. The colonists were verbally and physically attacking British soldiers which resulted in the death of 5 colonists. The colonists were chanting and throwing snowballs at the soldiers. This resulted in a drawing being made by Paul Revere which depicts the soldiers as violent. The drawing caused more uproar.
