- Traveling across these mountains is treacherous.

- Henry and Eliza Spalding are going to travel West along the Oregon Trail, to teach the Native American tribe the Nez Perce, about the Bible
- These Missionaries will not follow our customs.
- It's infuriating!
- The journey across the Rockies was long and difficult.
- Yet more people have succumbed to death.
- After three years Henry baptized two Nez Perce chiefs, and one had their infant son baptized when he was born as well.
- Many Native Americans were offended that the Missionaries would not follow their customs.
- Many Native Americans died of the diseases the Missionaries brought with them West.
- The Missionaries may have not converted many Native Americans, but they did help to open the West to settlement.
