30 years prior to the French and Indian War among the Indians, French and British. French Fur traders had traveled into the upstate region of South Carolina. They did this so they could have the opportunity to trade furs with the Natives in the area.
We are all French Fur traders and we are heading toward the upstate region of SC.
The British, however did not want the Cherokee tribe to associate and trade with the French. For this reason, they signed a treaty with the Cherokee Tribe to impede them from having a relationship with the French. The Cherokee tribe assumed that the treaty meant that they had an alliance with the British, this however was not what was implied.
We are signing a treaty to make an alliance.
The peacefulness between the Cherokee tribe and the British ended once the French and Indian War began. While many of the other Native Americans not from the Cherokee tribe fought alongside the French the Cherokee people did not because they were fighting against them with the British. Consequently, since they had made an alliance with the British they expected the British to defend them in battle and to afford protection to them.
We are against you alongside the British who we have made an alliance with.
For not joining and fighting the British with us we will attack you .
