  • Have you ever thought about how since the industrial revolution everything is so different?
  • Yeah, we do not notice that, because we only live around 80 years, but if we analyse graphs and data that has been collected over the years we can really see the difference
  • Yes, for example in the past few years, fossil fuel emissions have increased extensively
  • Wait a minute, what are really fossil fuel and their emissions ?
  • Fossil fuels are natural fuels like coal, natural gas and petroleum formed over millions of year from decomposing plants and animals. These fossil fuels are situated down in the earth's crust because for them to be formed there was needed a enormous force to condense all of those substances into the fuels we know today
  • Oh, now everything makes much more sense. But I still don't know how their emissions effect our planet
  • So let me explain it to you: when burning these fuels, emissions of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases are realised into the atmosphere. What makes them so harmful is that they absorb infrared radiation from the Sun in the form of heat, which is circulated in the atmosphere and eventually lost to space.
  • Oh! I understand now. So that energy that is retained, in form of heat, in the atmosphere because of the greenhouse effects is the one that contributes to global warming.
  • What is interesting is that in 2020 there was a dastric decrease in terms of air pollution and greenhouse effects emission within just few weeks. As all the world was locked in their houses, people travelled less wether its by car or by plain
  • Oh wow! That is really incredible, that shows how powerful we can be in relation to these causes of greenhouse effects that seem very difficult to overcome. I think today's society has a very strong potential in relation to these matters and that generations to come will be able to deal with this problem in a proper manner.
  • One other fact that we must mentioned when speaking about fossil fuels is that they are running out as they are a limited resource that were made over millions of years!
  • Oh no! That is devastating, do you think we will be alive without them? Can we find another origin of energy in this planet?
