Storyboard Text

  • Hi! Can you please tell me what all graphs there are in the Velocity, Displacement, and Acceleration?
  • Yes, sure! There is a Displacement-Time Graph, a Velocity-Time Graph and a displacement time graph. Do you want to know what each graph tell us?
  • Yes! I would love to learn about that!
  • Okay, so basically the distance time graph has a gradient or a slope with which we can calculate the speed of the object. Gradient is basically dividing the distance by the time hence giving the speed!
  • Is this the same with other graphs also?
  • Yes it is! We have another similar graph called the displacement time graph and the gradient or slope gives us the velocity of the object, not the speed. The change in displacement is known as the velocity.
  • Yes you are correct! The gradient of a Velocity Time graph is the acceleration. And do you know the opposite of acceleration?
  • And what about the velocity time graph, is it true that it gives acceleration because the change in velocity is also called acceleration?
  • Is it retardation? I remember studying this for my test. I hope I am right?
  • Yes you are correct again! It is called retardation. Also just remember this as a note. If the test asks you to calculate the average speed then you have to calculate the total distance and divide it by the total time of the graph.
  • Okay, thank you! I will finally pass my test!
