- Tan Tock Seng Hospital provided healthcare for the sick and needy people of Singapore. After Mr Tan passed away, his family continued to build more hospital awards. His contributions were important. As people did not have money to go to the hospital. A lot of people died because they were living in poor conditions and could not go to the hospital.
- When he became rich, he started to help the Chinese community. He was a very generous community leader. He took care of the burial expenses of the poor in the Chinese community. There were also other settlers that contributed to the building of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Mr Syed Omar bin Ali Aljunied, a leader of the Arab community, came forward to help. He contributed by donating a piece of land so that the hospital for the poor could be built.
- Another Chinese community leader, Mr Seah Eu Chin, also contributed. He was appointed a member of the management committee of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He helped raise funds to run the hospital. After Mr Tan passed away, his family continued to donate money to build more hospital wards. Today, Tan Tock Seng Hospital is located along Jalan Tan Tock Seng.
