  • Hey Mithra! It's been some time! What classes do you have again? Er, math right?! How's that?!
  • Uh it's alright- I'm just glad the school year is almost done, I can't wait to relax-
  • Well actually, the reason I asked you that is because I'm doing an article for the school newspaper about math this year since you probably know that it's de-streamed now with new units added to the curriculum, so I was wondering if I could interview you about your feelings on the course?
  • Uh okay sure... let's go sit down somewhere
  • Okay so the first question:
  • What aspect of the course has been the most successful for you?
  • I do better on assignments compared to tests as there is less pressure on myself, but don't get me wrong, data management was not an easy unit. There were many things that were new to me, such as boxplots, quartiles, and terms such as interpolate and extrapolate. In fact, I spent so much time trying to figure out the difference between continuous and discrete data because I could not understand the difference. And, one of the requirements on the assignment was not making the poster wordy, which is something that I struggle with, since I enjoy putting a lot of detail in my writing.
  • I think the most successful aspect of this course was the data management unit. The first reason, being the most superficial, is the fact that I got 100% on the project which I'm very proud about!
  • Oh that's an interesting one!
  • The mark on that assignment is one reason why I think it was the best aspect of the course, but like I mentioned before, the bigger reason as to why I found the most success in this unit is because I was able to gain this new knowledge and successfully apply it. I like math, but only when it contains equations, definitely not graphs, which is what data management is all about! But, I was able to push aside my dislike for graphs, and actually put in the effort to try and understand the new material, which is represented in my effort put into the assignment. I thought, complaining about how much I hate graphs isn't going to help me understand the material, so I decided to truly try.
  • I also felt the pressure from the amount of time that we got, since we only got two days, and to be honest, I didn't use the work periods as productively as I should've. The last hurdle was that we had to make the poster look appealing, which I'm not horrible at, but in two days, I wasn't sure if I could use my creative juices to construct something. So, it definitely sounds like the odds were against me, but I put in the effort and stayed up quite late, looking at how I could make that poster the best work that I could possible do, and in the end, my work paid off.
  • Great answer! It's great to see how hard work pays off! Now the next question:
  • What thing have you learned in this class that you are the most excited about?
  • Ooo let me think...
  • I actually didn’t like coding before this year! In elementary, we used to have a few periods every year where our librarian would teach us some coding on Scratch, and while it wasn't that bad, I found it kind of boring. Another thing that I didn't like was how the code had to be EXACT with proper syntax etc., or the program wouldn't work, and as a person who easily overlooks small details, it wasn't a fun experience.
  • Quite shockingly, I would say coding!
