Why did we even build this fort?
In 1754, George Washington was appointed by Virginia's governor, Robert Dinwiddie. George Washington attacked a small French force . However, he had to surrender after the French came back and attacked.
The French and Indian war, also known as the 7 years War, was fought primarily in Virginia and Nova Scotia.

Indies, British took control and owned the land of Canada, the Great Lakes region, the Ohio River valley, and Florida. The French were pushed out of North America. Therefore, the Mississippi River became the boundary line between Spanish and British territory.
In 1763, the Treaty of Paris was created, which ended the war. After the British winning many battles.
The Aftermath
After the war ended, the colonies became united. This was because of the great expenses and debt from the war, therefore, Great Britain decided to tax all their colonists to pay the expenses. The colonists became angry and united behind Benjamin Franklin for the Albany Plan of Union, however, it failed.
Because of the colonist and Great Britain not agreeing on everything, this caused problems in the future. For example, the colonists did not want to be taxed anymore by the British. The colonist believed if they united together and fought back that they would become independent .
