  • I really like the place here Mike. The moon always seemed so fascinating to me.
  • The moon is surely a cool place in our universe Neil. I believe Earth is the coolest planet in our solar system. I'm interested in learning more about humans. I heard about a process called DNA replication when I was learning about DNA in humans, but what exactly is DNA replication?
  • That's a great question Mike! DNA replication is a genetic process in which DNA forms a copy of itself during the more broad process known as cell division.
  • Primase synthesizes short-stranded nucleic acids called RNA primers. These RNA primers notify an enzyme called DNA polymerase III where to start the process of DNA synthesis. DNA polymerase III will add on DNA nucleotides to the 3' end of the template DNA strand. In this case, primase is similar to a rocket containing a satellite that is launched from Earth. An RNA primer can be compared to a satellite that provides information about Earth's atmosphere to scientists on Earth (Earth represents DNA polymerase III) that helps them predict climate, weather, and so on.
  • No problem! I have to travel back to Earth. It was fun talking to you Mike, and maybe we can talk about DNA transcription and translation next time I visit the moon.
