  • Hello there, welcome to the indus river valley civilization, my name is Baschuel. I am going to teach you about our city.
  • we are currently in modern day Pakistan. This civilization started in 2700 B.C.E. The Indus River is what gave the civilization its name.
  • Homes
  •
  • Right: Great Bath
  • Our houses had up to 12 rooms in them. The roofs were completely flat, people spent most of their time on the roof because it was cooler. People used the inside of their house to do work, meaning they didn't have a gathering place to do work.
  • Our houses are made from kiln fired mud bricks that were very sturdy and plastered together.
  • We are the first civilization to have a sewer system. Underneath the village, a collection of clay pipes carried waste, meaning people could have their own private bathroom
  • This pool is supposed to represent the great bath. The Great Bath took up an entire floor of the citadel, a big building where people do rituals and other things according to our religion.
  • The Great Bath was a place where people would cleanse themselves because the water was believed to be given by a god/goddess.

  • Next, we will talk about seals, not the animals. We use seals the same way people use info on a box. It says who the traded item belongs to, and where it is from.
  • When we trade, we go to the Indus River. We put our seals on the things we trade away with our trade partner. Our main trade partner is Mesopotamia. We trade the things we have enough of for things we don't.
