Storyboard Text

  • WEE WOO WEE WOO!
  • Ambulance sits outside Katie and Matts neighbours' house for 10 minutes with sirens on
  • 🔊🔊🔊
  • The siren is so loud!
  • I know right!
  • Ambulance rushes off and the pitch changes dramatically
  • WHOOSH!
  • Hey Katie, why does the siren sound so different now that its driven off?
  • Well if you listened in science, you would know that it is because of the doppler effect... but i'll get my science book out and explain.
  • When the source (the ambulance) is approaching or near the observer (us), the wavelengths are compressed together, resulting in a more frequent and high pitched siren like what we heard when it sat outside our house!
  • THE DOPPLER EFFECT 11/11/21SCENARIO 1 - MOVING TOWARDS THE OBSERVERTHE SOURCE OF SOUND OBSERVER WAVELENGTH
  • Okay, but why did the pitch get lower when it drove off?
  • I havent finished explaining yet...
  • *Katie reopens her book*
  • On the flip side, when the source (the ambulance) is moving away from observer (us), the wavelengths are spread apart, resulting in a less frequent and low pitch siren like what we heard when it drove off!
  • THE DOPPLER EFFECT 11/11/21SCENARIO 2 - MOVING AWAY FROM THE OBSERVERTHE SOURCE OF SOUND OBSERVER WAVELENGTH
  • That makes so much more sense now! Thanks Katie
  • Thats all good!
