Laxmi was born in Delhi. She was a 15 years old girl when she was approached by a 32 year old man. She rejected him and didn’t tell anyone about this, as she thought that the family would not allow her to go to school.

The man approached her again and asked her to marry him, she rejected him again and as soon as she rejected him. She was attacked, the man’s elder brother threw acid on Laxmi.

She was admitted to the hospital and underwent many surgeries. Laxmi was so traumatized that she contemplated suicide. But thinking of the pain she would cause her parents, she decided to end such thoughts.

Later the man got arrested and was given life imprisonment on public demands. The Supreme court was in favor of Laxmi. Later many other acid attack survivors took a stand for themselves just like Laxmi.
Laxmi started a foundation known as The Laxmi Foundation which helps acid attack victims. She was also a director of Chhanv Foundation, an NGO dedicated to helping acid attack survivors in India. She was honored with various awards for her courage.
Currently she is running the NGO and continuing to spread awareness about acid attacks in India successfully.
