Storyboard Text

  • Reading about Gina's story made me realize that we should never give up, no matter how hard the situation or how hard life gets.
  • Gina impacted many people lives, specially her parents. Gina's mom never gave up and has looked for different alternatives, educated herself, and looked for many resources that will help Gina and speak up for Gina's needs.
  • As I mentioned before Gina's mom was the one speaking up for Gina's rights, one thing that had an impact on me is that her mom decided to go back to Queens College and study special education in order for her to know what were Gina's educational rights, learn about the special education law and this was all for Gina and her wellbeing.
  • Ways to help parents share their voices.
  • Phone calls and emails:I will provide my students parents my phone number / email for any questions or concerns regarding their child.
  • Providing parents with the right resources. Explain to parents all the many resources available for their child, help parents advocate for their child rights in education and also help parents by advocating for that student right as a teacher.
  • Use communication apps such as class dojo to see their child's progress inside the classrooms by updates, videos, photos, announcements this also gives parents the opportunity to see and express any questions or concerns towards their child education, or ask teachers about any modification they believe their child needs.
  • Meet with parents based on either party's needs to talk about a student, before meeting with the parent as an educator we can send monthly folders of students work in order for the parents to see students progress and comment back with any questions or comments.
