What does Desiree do poorly

Where have they been

Desiree had some rough encounters working as waitress. The novel explains her encounters as" she noticed of course , she did. Still every morning she took a deep breath, tied her apron, fixed her face into a smile. She thought of her daughter and swallowed her humiliation".(60) Desiree is a very confident and prideful individual. It was only the love she had for her daughter that made her silence possible.

In the novel Adele the mother of the Vignes twins describes her daughter Desiree as "Desiree always restless, as if her foot had been nailed to the ground and she couldn't stop yanking it ...She'd always been hardest on Desiree, who was most like her father confident that as long as she willed good things to happen, nothing could harm her".(38) Desiree is the kind of person who is outgoing and passionate about the things she loves. However her passions can get her into trouble when she is blindly confident.

After being abruptly abandoned by Stella, Desiree began hopelessly waiting for Stella to reach out. The text states, "And yet, even after six months, Desiree still held out hope. Stella could call. She would send a letter. But each evening. she groped inside the empty mailbox and waited beside a phone that refused to ring ".(17) After six months of constantly thinking about Stella without so much as phone call. Desiree is gradually losing hope of being contacted by Stella. She realizes that thinking about stella won't bring her back.

Jude often asked her mother when they would be leaving Mallard. However Desiree would never reply truthfully. According to the novel "What'd I tell you? her mother said. we gotta be here a little while.. there was no plan to go back home or to go anywhere else, even, and her mother was lying each time she pretended there was. "(87) Desiree would keep telling the same lie to Jude for years breaking her promise each time. Desiree lies strained her relationship with her daughteer.

Desiree struggles to parent Jude while living Mallard. The author describes Desiree's inner thoughts as "She knew better, of course. Her daughter only wanted to leave. She'd wanted to leave Mallard since they'd arrive and Desiree, ashamed, kept promising that that they would.(94) As a mother Desiree is aware that she has failed at developing good communication within the relationship. Her constant need to lie to Jude has made her an unreliable parent, and has forced Jude to become reliant only on herself.

After running away from home Stella and Desiree landed in New orleans. Upon their arrival the novel describes their reaction as "But staying in New orleans was Stella's idea... The rest of the city was filthy-urine-splattered cobblestone, garbage cans overflowing into the streets, and even the drinking water tasting metallic."(55) Initially New Orleans left a bad impression on the girls. However, the thought of going back to Mallard helped Desiree get accustomed to the new city.
