Storyboard Text

  • The Diabetes Champion Program is a 12-month program to train clinical staff to become diabetes educators and advocates. In this refresh, we are moving away from monthly virtual meetings and surveys, to self-paced podcasts and experiential learning activities. Additionally, a select number of clinicians will be able to pursue their diabetes education certification (all costs covered).
  • I can now listen to lectures about diabetes at my leisure. Recordings are available as podcasts and are coupled with practical exercises to help me apply my knowledge to provide better patient care. There are weekly office hours if I have specific questions about the lectures or follow-up activities.
  • Instead of completing monthly surveys, I now complete monthly activities to directly apply my knowledge of inpatient diabetes management. This improves the care that I can provide for patients living with diabetes and increases my confidence as a diabetes educator.
  • Many of the activities include collaborating with other Diabetes Champions. We are responsible for organizing events in our respective units to teach others about inpatient diabetes management. We also meet quarterly in-person with all champions and program facilitators. I feel more connected to my cohort.
  • I track the numbers of hours that I spend on patient education because I was awarded grant to pursue my diabetes education certification. I am being coached by a program facilitator.
  • The Diabetes Champion Program sponsored my Diabetes Certification Program. Thanks to the support of my team, I am know a certified diabetes education. This will help me better advocate for patients living with diabetes.
