  • Hi guys today our topic is Geological Time Scale!!!
  • Really?! What is geological Time Scale?
  • Do you know the definition of Geologic Time Scale?
  • Sure! Geologic Time Scale is a system of chronological measurement that relates stratigraphy to time.
  • Hi! I don't know the definitionof it can you explain it to me?
  • Ohhhh... that sounds interesting!
  • Do you want to know the each meaning of it?
  • Geological Time Scale is divided into four level hierarchy of time intervals.
  • It's Eon, Era , Epoch, and Period!
  • Ohhh!! that's easy to memorize! Eon, Era, Epoch, and Period!
  • Yup! I want to know!
  • Really?! then what are the four level of hierarchy?
  • Era, is a a major division of time that is a subdivision of an eon and is itself subdivided into periods.
  • Eon, is a Long span of geologic time. In formal usage, eons are the longest portions of geologic time (eras are the second-longest)
  • Epoch is a finer subdivision of time possible and Periods are frequently subdivided into Epochs
  • Proterozoic eon- it is when the atmosphere began to have oxygen, eukaryotes diversified, continents began to drift away.
  • Archaean eon- the atmosphere that contained methane, with little to no oxygen, oceans were green due to lack of iron and stromatolite -field shoreline
  • Mesozoic era- breakup of major landmasses, the largest creatures existed called dinosaurs.
  • Hadeon eon came from the word "hades" which means hell and considered as a chaotic eon mainly due to meteorites that constantly bombarded to earth
