- The first English colony in North America was called Jamestown, the French and Indian war lasted about 7 years.
- loyalist vs. patriots
- The colonists had claimed ''no taxation without representation '' because they were all being taxed. They also had no voice in the British government.

- the British soldiers were sent to capture the militia's weapons, while paul revere warned the colonist "the red coats are coming''.

- Not all colonists wanted to be independent of England. But most of the patriots fought in the American army, and some of the loyalists fought in the British army.
- The American army defeated the British at the battle of saratoga. This victory convinced the french to join the Americans to fight against their old rival,Britain.
- The bill of rights would protect people's rights that will include life, liberty, and property. ''We the people '' comes from the social contract.
