- The Berlin Wall was well protected with barbed wire, thousands of landmines, and dogs that were trained to attack.
- What is the problem, Dad?
- We will not be able to climb over safely. There is other ways on how to escape that we can try.
- Since the wall is well protected, it is very hard to find a way over including climbing. There is barbed wire at the top as well which is harmful.
- Two years later... June 26th, 1963
- JOHN F. KENNEDY MAKES A SPEECH AT WEST BERLIN CITY HALL. HE SAID THAT HE IS A CITIZEN OF BERLIN! ICH BIN EIN BERLINER!
- I do not think that the Berlin Wall being built was okay or a nice solution. It is better than being at war, though!
- Twenty-two years later... March 11th, 1985
- We are not sure but we hope that Gorbachev will do what is right by tearing down the wall.
- INCOMING NEWS: At the age of 54 years old, Mikhail Gorbachev has just become the leader of the Soviet Union.
- Does this mean that the wall might finally fall?
- After the United States President, Ronald Reagan made a demand, Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall. Two years later, protests started increasing all over the world.
- TEAR DOWN THE BERLIN WALL!
- WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE EAST GERMAN GOVERNMENT
- Nine months later...
- How did this happen?
- Mom, where are we driving to?
- Well honey, this happened because Hungary finally broke their place with Warsaw Pact.
- Since Hungary had opened the border with Austria, we are now able to travel to West Berlin but we have to say we are tourists.
- November 9th, 1989 Forty years after the Berlin Wall was bulit, it is finally being torn down. Egon Krenz told all of East Germany that they can travel through but they will need an exit visa. That night, hundreds of thousands of people were able to make the wall fall and travel to the West.
- I cannot wait to be able to travel to our friends and family again.
- I am so happy that he Berlin Wall is finally falling down. We will now be able to travel through we have to apply for an exit visa.
