- The Americans were planning on a defense of Brooklyn. Then, the British beat them in a battle because the British army was more experienced, armed, and trained. The American army lost 1,407 people. They were forced to retreat in order to survive.
- Battle of Trenton
- Let's Go! We are s o good!
- The Continental army lost this battle and it was one of many during the beginning of the war. After this, there was barely any food to eat and people in the Continental army barely had food or clothes.
- Battle of Princeton
- George Washington led all of his soldiers across the Delaware river to go fight in Trenton. It was a very hard cross because it was the middle of the winter and there were giant pieces and chunks of ice that they had to go through.
- African Americans in the War
- When the Americans reached Trenton, they found the Hessians sleeping in their beds after their big Christmas feasts. They were caught by complete surprise Washington took 868 prisoners without losing a single man.
- This battle was one that neither sides of the war thought that they would fight. The Continental army caught the British off guard, and they then won the battle .
- African Americans in the war had started to join the British army because they promised freedom to them in Britain, but then Washington let African Americans join the continental army. By the end of the war, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Pennslyvania had taken steps to end slavery.
