  • EVERYONE: YES, SIR OCTOPUS! See you next week!
  • Okay, class! Remember , you have to make a research comparison about advantages and disadvantages of Sexual and Asexual reproduction , and will be submitted next week! Class dismissed!
  • I think we should go home first and look for someone to help us.
  • (EVERYONE) What are we going to do?
  • You're right. Let's go!
  • You know what, Phin, the best example of those who got sexual and asexual reproduction is the both of us.
  • Really, how come, Jelly ?
  • Yes, it is. We, jellyfish can reproduce because we have asexual reproduction where there is only one parent. The offspring are clones of the parent and each other. We produce more offspring in a short period of time which increases our population faster.
  • Wow, that's awesome. So you mean I am the example of those who have the Sexual reproduction?
  • However, since we only need one parent, it has disadvantages , like it does not lead to genetic variation in a population, species like us may only be suited to one habitat and a disease may affect all the individuals in a population
  • You got it right! Sexual reproduction involves two parents and the joining of male and female gametes during fertilization. The offspring inherit a mixture of genes from both parents and increases genetic variation. You can easily adapt to new environment which gives you a survival advantage and less likely to be affected by any diseases.
  • Having sexual reproduction is good. But then, it will take us a long time and energy to look for a mate and will not possible to reproduce if we're isolated with other species .
  • That's right! Now you know the advantages and disadvantages of sexual and asexual reproduction. I believe you will be able to pass our activity?
  • Yes, of course. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Jelly.
