- The main characters are introduced. Walter, Ruth, Benetha, Mama, Travis. They all live together in a small apartment.
- Climax
- YES! Walter aren't you excited?
- NO! Because now I can't invest in my liquor stores!
- I bought a house fotrall of us with the insurance money from your father's passing.
- We decline your offer to buy us out of your neighborhood,
- Ruth and her husband Walter are in an argument. Walter is explaining that he wants to become more than what he is a ruth blows him off.
- Falling Action
- That's what the man said 'aint it?
- So you are moving in anyway?
- Mama and ruth are talking when all of a sudden ruth faints.
- Resolution
- let me get my plant and say my goodbyes.
- come on mama it's time to go!
- Mama buys a house with the insurance money from her husband's passing. Everyone is happy about it except for Walter who wanted to invest in liquor stores.
- A man from the all-white neighborhood they are moving in comes to tell them that the community's people don't want them there, so he wants to buy the house from them. But Walter declines to show his family he is a man.
- Mama is looking at the home for one last time, saying her goodbyes. Walter is trying to hurry her out the door. Mama picks up her plant which symbolizes hope, and leaves.
