  • Hi, I'm Sebastian.I'm going to tell you a JapaneseFolkore story called The Wise Old Water Buffalo. It teaches us a lesson to always be careful how we treat people. Also, that life is full of unexpected events, but that things will work out in the end if we are kind to others.
  • I can talk. Let's trick the bad master and you can win all his riches and wealth.
  • I can't believe you can talk! I am poor. Your plan sounds good.
  • How embarrassing! A talking buffalo - no way!
  • You're going to be my servant for life it you can't make the buffalo talk!
  • I beg you, Please talk!
  • The Wise Old Water Buffaloby Sebastian Atra
  • Oh no! You have helped me so much. I don't want to lose you, but I will do as you say.
  • Listen to me. There will be a plague and the only way to save the village is to kill me. I will come back as a human and you will know who I am when I arrive.
  • A young poor young man was in the forest and heard a voice. He found a talking water buffalo who told him a story about how he was a working slave for a cruel rich master who dumped him in the forest when the buffalo became too old. He told the young man to go into the village and make a bet with the master to give him all his riches if the young man could make the buffalo talk. It was a good trick and would punish the master for his cruelty. The young man agreed.
  • Are you sure you want to stay? I'm a single man.
  • I'm a single lady too, but I need a place to stay so I have no choice.
  • When they got to the village, the young man said his bet and the cruel master gathered all the servants to watch and laugh. The buffalo wouldn't talk and the young man begged while everyone laughed. Finally the buffalo spoke about the cruelty of the master and all the mean things he did. Everyone was shocked, especially the master. The young man won all his wealth and property, and together with the wise old water buffalo, they became famous and lived a good life.
  • He's our baby!
  • A baby with a buffalo horn birthmark! Let's get married.
  • One day, the water buffalo told the young man about his prediction that a plague would come and the only way to save the village was to kill the buffalo and eat him. He said that he would come back as a human and that everyone in the village would know who he was from the birthmark on his chest. The young man was sad, but he agreed. The plague killed everyone in the region except the young man's village, just as the wise old water buffalo had predicted. The young man was very grateful.
  • One day, a young lady came knocking on the the young man's door and asked for a place to stay for the night as she was on a long journey. The young man was worried because he was single and so was she, and things might happen. But he agreed to let her stay the night. Just like he predicted, things happened. The next day, the young lady left and continued on her journey.
  • A year later, the young lady came knocking on the young man's door again, but this time she was holding a baby. She told the young man that he was the father. He looked at the baby, and saw a birthmark of buffalo horns on the baby's chest. Just as the wise old water buffalo had predicted, he came back to the village as the young man's son. Now the young man had a chance to repay the buffalo. He married the lady and they lived a long and happy life raising their son with love.
