The leaders told them to go out to Sixth Avenue in the opposite direction, they escaped from the police and escaped to Downtown Newberry's
- A well-dressed white woman went up to them saying offensive words. She didn't touch them nor spit on them, she just walked away
- They were then sent off to jail. They would pray together every morning and at twelve at night. They would sing negro hymns and freedom songs.
- At the following mass meetings, other people that didn't go to the movements would then tell them how much they appreciate them and offer money to them to thank them. They thought to being able to go to the movement and be arrested is an honor.
